Some of the biggest and most popular festivals in Calgary happen during the summer! ☀️The city comes alive with outdoor concerts, food festivals, cultural celebrations, fireworks, and even street parties! If you’re only planning to check out a few Calgary festivals in 2026, start with these big ones!
By far Calgary’s biggest festival and one of the most famous events in Canada. Expect concerts, midway rides, rodeo events, pancakes, tent parties, fireworks, and full-on cowboy chaos for 10 days every July. Yahoo!
What started as a cute festival on 4th Street in Mission has grown to overtake 17th Ave as well! I'd say this is Calgary’s favourite street festival, complete with live music, patios, tons of local vendors, food trucks, and thousands of people filling the streets of downtown.
A massive outdoor music festival at Prince’s Island Park known for its relaxed atmosphere, riverside setting, and incredible live performances. Even people who don’t know the artists usually end up loving Folk Fest!
One of Calgary’s most popular summer festivals featuring international food, cultural pavilions, performances, and huge fireworks shows from teams around the world. This one is one of my favourites! It feels like it has everything!
A major film festival showcasing movies, documentaries, premieres, and special events from around the world. One of the biggest arts and culture festivals in Calgary every fall. And you might get to see a celebrity or two!

Aka my personal favourites. This is just my opinion, but here are some festivals that I feel deliver a great time, every time.🎉
This new-ish festival is rapidly becoming Calgary's favourite. Local restaurants across the city make over-the-top mac and cheese creations for a few glorious weeks in January. It’s one of the best winter food festivals in Calgary and gives everyone an excuse to leave the house during peak hibernation season. Plus at the festival's end, a winner is crowned!
A small beer festival that packs a lot of fun into an afternoon. Expect lots of craft beer samples and a casual atmosphere where people still want to PARTY. This is a bit of an industry event, so you'll get the added bonus of local industry intel.
If you like great tasting beer, giant pretzels, bratwurst, live polka music, and drinking out of a heavy stein this is for you! Fahr Oktoberfest brings maximum Bavarian energy with group dancing, singing, hilarious competitions, and of course, lots of lederhosen! 🥨
Winter in Calgary is cold, so the festival scene does slow down. That said, there are still lots of indoor events and even a few outdoors! This is a great time for comfort food events, theatre, and anything that gets you out of the house for a bit.
Spring is when Calgary starts to wake up again. As the snow melts, festivals move outdoors and the city starts filling up with food events, craft markets, and early patio energy. Get ready for the first big outdoor gatherings of the year.
Summer is PEAK festival season in Calgary. Nearly every weekend has something happening! Pick from massive music festivals and cultural celebrations to food trucks, street parties, and even a fireworks festival.
Fall brings a mix of cozy and lively events. You’ll find harvest festivals, food and drink events, film festivals, and Halloween-themed attractions as the weather cools down.
The end of the year mostly features holiday events. Christmas markets, light displays, and festive shows pop-up around the city.
Calgary Stampede is by FAR the biggest festival. It takes over the whole city for 10 days. However, there are other popular festivals like Calgary Folk Music Festival, GlobalFest, and the Calgary International Film Festival.
Due to Calgary weather, festival season peaks from June through August, but there are festivals year-round. There are lots of indoor festivals in the winter months plus a few outdoor ones too! This is the Canadian way! ☃️
Yes! Mostly outdoor ones. For example, Lilac Festival in Mission, downtown, is free to attend. Or there are low cost ones like MexiFest (also downtown in Eau Claire Plaza). For a list of free things to do in the city make sure you stop by my Free things To Do page.
It depends what kind of music you're into. But I'd recommend Stampede (tons of concerts in tents, and not just country music), Chasing Summer if you're into EDM, and Country Thunder is a big country music festival. Folk Music Festival is also big, and has much more laid back vibes, plus it's held at Prince's Island Park, which is a lovely place to hang.
Personally, I think Taste of Calgary is probably the best. The Rocky Mountain Food and Wine festival is good too, although has a strong focus on drinking. And of course Calgary Mac & Cheese festival, for those who love mac & cheese!
